Packing!

Packing for ten months in Africa is a big job, we're discovering. In additon to personal items, including things like a Katadyn water filter, there are also things like a laser printer and textbooks that we need to bring. Each of us is allowed two 50-pound bags whose total dimensions (height + width + length) cannot exceed 62 inches. If we want to bring more than that, we have to pay extra.

So, here's the question of the day: How do you make good use of every square inch of a Rubbermaid "Action Packer" and still keep the weight under 50 pounds?

It's BAUER, not Bower. C'mon, Laura, get it right!

Hope everything's going well at CES this summer. Tell everyone I said hi. I've missed CES quite a bit...

I'd be happy to help all you pack; I think it's one of my spiritual gifts. Oh, but wait, you're not in MPLS so that would make it a little difficult - oh drat! Seriously, I do love to pack- ask my family - especially when going to Africa.

Plus, I think I should know who Jack Bauer is, but for the life of me I can't remember - who is he???

Happy packing - don't forget CANDY!!!

Whoops - major error in that last post - what I meant to say was "I'd be happy to help ALL OF YOU pack" -

Sorry for the goof

No worries, Liz. Minnesotans are not known for their grammar and syntax.

Hi Cameroon Guys,

I just read your entire blog and decided I was very lonesome for you guys.

I took Wilfred and Angelica to lunch (finally). We had a nice talk.

Tomorrow I'm surrendering my G4Power Book to him for his personal use. I'm happy it's going to be put to good use.

By the way, don't forget the candy....Black Crows, Mike & Ike, Hot Tams and Good -n- Plenty. Tommy, do you think Cub Food rotisserie chicken can be delivered to Ndu?

Char, so good to see your name here. Dr. Fon's Power Book will be the envy of Cameroon. Will you come and visit to work the info booth at the Seminary? It could be a much-needed slice of home.

Dan, I think the Cub chicken should transport well. Could you throw in some of Liz's marshmallow fruit salad (sans Snicker bars, of course)?

Also, Dan, since you know worship music, I'll ask you this: in Cameroon, do you think I could introduce some Journey songs as worship music? Sure, the songs might be devoid of theological content, but they sure does rock.

Hey Tommy if you are looking for more good music I highly advise Vertical Horizon! They are uber sweet!

Wes, I'm thinking that maybe licorice of teutonic origin is ill-suited for the rigors of inter-continental travel; perhaps you could send it to MN where I would be happy to care for it until you come to retrieve it : )

Tommy, Journey in worship is a given...
"Don't Stop Believin'" of course will function adequately as a Congregational Song of Affirmation and Commitment
"Dead or Alive" will serve well as an altar call song
"Anyway You Want It" is a given for Po-Mo Worship Arts types who believe that many (or any?) paths lead to God
"Keep on Runnin'" will tie in beautifully if you preach on Hebrews 12:1
"Open Arms" if you preach on the Prodigal Son
"Mother, Father" for child dedication Sundays
"Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'"? Hmmmm, I'm thinkin', "maybe NOT!"

I like your thinking, Dan. You're really onto something. "Wheel in the Sky" could be used for a series on Ezekiel. Such music would surely lift the affections of both Bethlehem members and CBTS students.

oh dear. those poor students won't know what has hit them.

tommy. i think the only way they will enjoy the music would be if you gave them codeine before introducing the new genre.

don't you think steve perry can have his own genre? it could be called OVERRATED rock.

if you sing journey you can NOT borrow his pants!

So if Dan can you use Journey in worship can he also use U2???

8:52 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well...

U2 at church seems a bit too "hip," too trendy, too post-whatever, to really be cool.

Journey, however--now that's innovation. That's groundbreaking.

My roommate for next year (Karissa)told me she went to her aunt's church this weekend while they were at her cabin. Anyways. At this church the worship songs consisted of renditions of Sheryl Crow, The Fray, and the oh so infamous (at least in your eyes) 'Only Hope' from A Walk to Remember. So. Who knows! Maybe Journey will be the next big movement for worship. I'm sure Dad will keep you posted - he gets those worship mags.
