And the Sky, is a Hazy Shade of…Wet Season.
We were hoping to get a picture featuring the beautiful African scenery with the three of us in the foreground and our house in the distant background. However, as is often the case here, the afternoon sky was covered with clouds and filled with rain. There’s no hot water for a shower to provide relief; the water has been out since this morning, and the power’s been out since last night. Candles are a nice effect, though, and I’ve learned that you can live dirty.
Anyway, because of the sudden showers, our umbrellas have become indispensable. They go with us nearly everywhere. Charlie’s already broken one, and I’ve nearly lost mine multiple occasions.
Dinner’s on the table—potatoes, rolls, carrots, and cabbage. It’s actually more than I expected. For some reason, whenever we have hamburgers for lunch, our cook makes extra rolls and deems them a sufficient dinner. Having side dishes with the rolls is a bonus. (This is an anomaly—we’ve been eating great.)
If you think to pray, pray for our spirits. We feel plenty busy now, and we’ll be adding more responsibilities soon. The computer technician is leaving next month, and we’ll be assuming responsibilities of keeping up the computer lab. With short nights and sometimes long classes, we’d appreciate your prayers. It’s a blessing and honor to be here, and we want to serve with zeal, setting our mind on things above. Thank you!

PS. Sorry the picture quality is poor. We hope to put more up soon. We’ll be sure Charlie’s in some authentic Cameroonian garb.

Tommy~ R U growing a moustache?
Hi Everyone,
It was good to catch up with all of you. I haven't had a computer for awhile because Blake took mine to Whitworth to use while his was being fixed. Charlie, can we e-mail you yet? Which e-mail do we use? We have been enjoying a wonderful week of sun but our weather will soon be more like your rainy season. I loved the umbrella picture. What is the mailing address for you? I will try to get some mail to you. Keep dry.
Love, Mom Shepherd
HELLO Africa!!
Charlie, great choice of pants! You are a "Schtood Mueffin!!"
Tommy, what the heck?!?! Are you trying to impress someone with your "stache"?
Wes, you were supposed to keep Tommy clean shaven!
Hello Boys!
Tommy. Why do you have a beard? And a mustache and no hair on your head?? And Charlie! You have a beard too? What? Is it sans-shave-september?
Well. Anyways. I love the umbrellas!! Do you ever frolick about in the rain just for fun?
Denny,
I wondered where you have been! Glad you're back. :)
Guys, sounds like you are having way too much fun--get to work!
Judy and Niener, something loosely resembling a goatee has appeared on my face. When water in the morning to shave is undependable, it's nice to have a little less on your face affected.
Anie, Charlie buzzed the ever decreasing hair on my head a couple nights ago. Maybe the facial hair is subconscious compensation.
Colts are 3-0! Watch a Colts game for me, everyone. Please?
tommy - i didn't even recongize you! in fact, i still don't believe that that guy on the right is you!
i have been watching only bad movies lately, so you're not missing out on anything on that front. however, the new justin timberlake album is tight!
will email soon.
Oh Tommy. Even from the hinge of Africa you are up on the latest Colts news. Is Adam sending you updates? What is he doing without you to text? Adam. If you read this. I sympathize with your loss. Hey. Maybe we should tape a few games and bring them over. It amazes me, though it shouldn't, that you still are able to link the colts to the blog post.
Oh my goodness, gracious me - oh my goodness gracious me. I hardly know what to write - that is quite a "sporting 'stache and shirt" to the one of the right (That is from our current house guest and she prefers to remain masked and anonymous).
I say... it's such a colorful picture - WOW! I do wonder about all of the facial hair....yikes....I'm wondering if the water will be on later in the year? Ah, so the banner of flexiblity waves again.
Off to sleep after 3 round of '90's Trivial Pursuit and 3 victories!! :)
Tommy,
In my late-night entry last evening I neglected to mention that I will be trying to watch a Colts game this weekend. Football has been somewhat overshadowed by baseball at our house however - post season play will begin soon!! :) Also, just for the record - lest there be any misunderstanding - I LOVE the colorful picture...shirts and umbrellas! Can't wait to get my own colorful ensemble! maybe matching for the whole family??
TTFN - off to watch a movie with Anders and Mari. The original "Love Bug" -
Just for the record - I will NOT be sporting a MATCHING outfit to the rest of the family. An outfit, yes. Matching? NO. Talk about cheesy. I'm way too cool for that. Ha!
too cool for school is not mari
